NYC sees a break from gun violence as no morning shootings reported

No shootings were reported across New York City early Friday, police said — a break from the recent surge in gunplay — as authorities confirmed that five people were shot across Gotham on Thursday.

From midnight until around 8 a.m. Friday, no one was shot in the five boroughs, cops said.

A day earlier, five shootings with five victims were reported, according to preliminary figures released by the NYPD.

One of those victims was Jamel Edmonds, 32, who was fatally shot in the chest and head around 6 p.m. in the rear of a building on Park Avenue near Marcy Avenue, on the grounds of Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Marcy Houses, cops said.

Edmonds, who lives in the building, was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, where he was pronounced dead. The shooter remains at large.

The motive for the slaying was not known Friday morning.

On Thursday’s date in 2019, four shootings were reported across the city with four victims, according to cops.

New York City has seen 12 consecutive weeks of surging gun violence.
