Hurricane Laura claimed no lives in Texas, but a homeless woman in downtown Austin was killed during a gunfight between two groups of evacuees from the storm, according to reports.
Police responded about 12:30 a.m. Thursday to the brawl involving about 60 evacuees – one group from Port Arthur and another from Beaumont, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The woman, who was not involved in the fracas, was struck by a stray bullet after the combatants pulled out handguns and one pulled the trigger, according to the outlet.
She was pronounced dead about 1 a.m. at Dell Seton Medical Center, police said.
No arrests have been made as investigators are in the process of interviewing witnesses and trying to find footage of the shooting, the news outlet reported.
